The newborn disappeared from the side of the sleeping parents
The 17-day-old newborn was sleeping next to his parents at night. After waking up in the middle of the night, the parents can't find the newborn named Sohana.
Their idea is that someone stole the baby sometime on Sunday night. The incident took place at Gabtala village of Khauliat unions in Morelganj Upazila of Bagerhat.
Sohana Akhter, a 16-day-old baby, is the son of Sujan Khan and Shanta Akhter of Gabtala village. Sujan makes a living by fishing in the sea.
Police said that several teams of them have come to the field to rescue the stolen newborn. The couple lived in a room in a three-room house with tin rice and fences. Sujan's sister, Benjamin, and their two-year-old daughter lived in one of the other two rooms on either side, and Sujan's parents lived in the other.
The baby's mother saids, "Aftert eating on Sunday night, we turned off the lights and went to sleep. Sohana was between the two of us. I also fed him milk a few times at night. I got up at two o'clock and saw that there was no girl.
After receiving the news, the police started searching for the newborn from the night. Morelganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) visited the scene in the morning. Delwar Hossain.
Morelganj police officer in charge (OC) said. Monirul Islam told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone, "We have started work from a night with importance on the issue. We started the operation at 4 am to rescue the missing newborn Sohana from her parents' side.
We are at the scene. Maximum efforts are being made to find the newborn. The door of their house is tin. They sleep at night with iron rings. '
The mother of the newborn told us, ‘She can’t remember if the door was locked while she was sleeping at night. The father of the newborn had been married before. He has a two-year-old daughter in that family. 'The OC said it was being investigated whether it was theft or a conspiracy.
On March 11, 2019, a one-and-a-half-month-old boy was stolen from his parents in Bisharighata village of the same Upazila. At that time, a ransom of one lakh rupees was demanded from the family to return the child.
Police recovered the body of the child from the toilet of a fishery on March 18 after arresting a young man involved in the incident.
